Innocence Guide
The House of Noah
Innocence is defined as an energy created by God and contained within certain
living or non-living objects in the world. Therefore, it’s a holy power and
only those who have been chosen by God can wield this power. It is used by the
Black Order mainly in the war against the Earl, but Innocence can also exist
in other places.
As it is now, all the Innocence in the world is divided
into 109 parts. Each piece of Innocence may be as small as a coin, and come
in a variety of shape and sizes. A number of the Innocence pieces have already
been recovered (the Matel doll’s Innocence was the 41st), and some also exist
in the weapons of the Exorcists (see anti-AKUMA weapons below).
Clergyman
The members of the Black Order, especially the Exorcists, are referred to as
clergymen. I believe it has no significant meaning other than being a generic
term for people who belong to the Church, which in this case, refers to the
Black Order.
Accommodator
An Accommodator refers to a person who can, or has the potential to, synchronize
with Innocence. In other words, they have the ability to become an Exorcist
but may not necessarily be one.
Exorcist
Exorcists are black clergymen (or clerics) who are apostles of God, chosen because
they have an innate talent to synchronize with Innocence. Since Innocence is
the only power that can destroy the Earl of Millennium's army of AKUMA, the
Exorcists are the only ones who can fight the Earl’s weapons and defeat him.
In other words, Exorcists are Accommodators who have been trained by the Black
Order to improve their synchronicity and ability to invoke their Innocence in
anti-AKUMA weapons.
Synchronicity
The degree of synchronization, usually measured as a percentage, refers to the
synchronicity between an Exorcist (or an Accommodator) and his or her Innocence.
Parasite type Innocence can achieve a higher degree of synchronization. Synchronicity
can also be improved with training, but there is a limit depending on the individual.
Invocation
Invocation refers to the maximum state of synchronicity between an Exorcist
(or Accommodator) and his or her Innocence. In terms of anti-AKUMA weapons,
an Exorcist must be able to invoke his or her Innocence in order to use the
powers of the weapon. It is possible to invoke Innocence without an anti-AKUMA
weapon (e.g. Miranda), although it is extremely taxing and dangerous for the
Accommodator if he or she does not have a high synchronicity. Everywhere else
on this site, I've used the word Activation (and activate) instead.
Hall
Innocence pieces recovered by the Order, but unclaimed, are protected by Hebraska
in a special Hall. This Hall exists inside Hebraska in an elaborate seal to
keep the Innocence dormant until its Accommodator can be found.
The Fallen
It literally means, “punishment cast (upon you).” But, I believe in English
religious terms, that's roughly synonymous to God's angels or apostles who have
sinned and fallen from grace. The Fallen is a state which happens when a human
achieves less than 0% synchronicity with Innocence. In other words, when non-accommodators
are forced to become Exorcists. In some ways, it's like saying those that were
not chosen by God yet forced to become His apostles are “Sinners”. Exorcists
(or Accommodators) who betray their Innocence, deal with the enemy, or in any
way betray the mission of God (and in this case, the Black Order), will also
suffer The Fallen. The final form of The Fallen is a giant AKUMA-like monster
that wields a great destructive power, although its primary objective is to
execute the Exorcist (it takes about 24 hours). It is an irreversible state,
and the Fallen can never be saved.
Anti-Akuma weapons
Anti-Akuma weapons are not necessarily weapons in the way we think of them.
They're simply objects constructed by the Black Order scientists to contain
Innocence and come in a variety of shape and sizes. Even though an Accommodator
is supposed to be able to synchronize with his or her Innocence, it is difficult
for them to control the Innocence effective enough to be used as a weapon, that
is, what is called Innocence invocation (or activation). This is especially
true for Equipment Types (see below). Therefore, anti-Akuma weapons are constructed
from their Innocence to assist the Exorcist in invoking their Innocence.
In the case of Parasite Types, they do not go through such a “filter” so
to speak. They synchronize directly with the Innocence within them, so their
bodies, in fact, are acting as anti-Akuma weapons. Invoking their Innocence
requires more will and more energy from within themselves. But, they are also
able to achieve higher synchronicity because of this.
According to Bak, Innocence comes in many forms and are not all identical.
Each piece of Innocence has its own “style” and corresponding powers. Therefore,
in order to construct an effective anti-Akuma weapon, their scientists have
to first study and understand the nature of each piece of Innocence.
Parasite Type
This refers to a type of Accommodators who have anti-Akuma weapons as part of
their bodies. They are also the rarest of the Accommodator types (which doesn't
explain how often we see them in the series. Allen, Crowley and Suman are all
Parasite Types.
Equipment Type
These Accommodators invoke their Innocence in external anti-Akuma weapons. Most
of the Exorcists are of this type.
